Island Home
Game Design
During the 2019 Game Jam, we used the prompt "What home means to you" to come up with game pitches. I made a pitch around the idea you're surrounded by a storm that is closing in on you and you have a limited time to collect the items that mean the most to you. The player has to prioritize what they want to keep.
Started by determining the pillars of gameplay: Explore, Collect, Build.

Each round is randomly generated. I designed a number of predetermined floating island templates that would be spawned in random locations across the map. Each island had places where Memorabilia could spawn.

While the player is exploring, they can collect the resources to later customize their house when they're safe from the storm.

While other members of our team took my blueprint and made the mechanics. I designed pixel art for the Memorabilia.
